It’s a well known fact that Liverpool has what’s probably called a ’strong musical heritage’. So, from this fair city comes four blokes who don’t co-ordinate their outfits, haven’t performed ‘Ferry Cross The Mersey’ or ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’ (that we know - we haven’t asked about their football allegiances), and aren’t Cilla Black. Actually, one of them might be; we’re too scared to find out.
In their own words: “Bored by the serious nature of the music they”d played in previous bands, Rich, Chris, James and Ian decided to form a band to write pop songs about rubbish jobs, daytime television and STDs, and to generally have as much of a laugh as possible.”
goFASTER>> are pretty good at having fun, but they’re even better at creating infectious pop melodies and hooks even Cathy Dennis would give her song writing credit on ‘Toxic’ for. After having seen the ’same old faces” around the ’same old places’ for a number of years (and we don’t mean they didn’t actually go outside their front door), they came together after discovering they’d got the same ideas: mostly involving ‘having fun’.
Out of their initial jamming sessions came a string of demos, which, in the inevitable way made their way on to an official MySpace account (on 2nd June 2006 - they”re quite precise about that fact). Within weeks they’d had plays on national and international radio stations (Steve Lamacq on Radio 1, Sarah Darling on XFM - winning Music Response that week to receive lunchtime play on Ian Camfield’s show, and Radio Fritz in Germany), been contacted for gigs left, right and centre, and became their esteemed city’s new favourite band.
2007 now sees the band commanding stages nationwide with their set filled to the brim with indie-pop anthems in waiting, with more stage presence than the entire cast of Hollyoaks, and baffling fans and industry alike with their ‘interesting’ use of the caps lock key.
